Walking into Jerry-San’s Sushi Bar, the atmosphere is welcoming with the delicious smell of freshly made sushi, warm decorations, and friendly staff. The service is fast. The food is amazing. Located on Route 34 in West Haven, it’s clear why the restaurant is so popular. But what sets it apart from other sushi bars? Aside from great service and food, Jerry-San’s Sushi Bar makes you feel at home and uses a stellar marketing tactic.

Open for 14 years now, Chef Jerry San learned the traditional craft of making sushi from a Japanese Master Chef and has since added his own style and tastes. For Jerry, the sushi he serves his customers is more than food – it’s an art form. Using the perfect cut of fish and the freshest quality possible, he creates sushi rolls you won’t soon forget. As the New York Times says, “It feels like Jerry-San’s place; he takes the food and his hospitality seriously but he plays with you, too.” It’s not a surprise, as Chef Jerry San firmly believes in “first class food and first class service, the way a sushi restaurant should be.”

What’s most interesting about this sushi restaurant though, is their forward-thinking approach to low budget marketing. Many companies opt for costly marketing strategies such as placing ads or even filming commercials. Jerry-San’s Sushi Bar chose to market their brand in a customer friendly way. Every year, Chef Jerry San orders custom t-shirts with his restaurant’s logo and a new sushi-related slogan. Rather than selling them for a profit, he gives them away to customers and gains something greater. For every one person that wears his shirts, hundreds, potentially thousands of people see his logo.

This method of marketing and advertising is especially good for small and growing businesses who have a … Continue reading

Shark Week Shirts – Does It Get Any Better?

Among my favorite holidays-that-aren’t-real-holidays (ie my birthday, national donut day, etc) Shark Week is at the top of my list. This week long celebration of man’s most terrifying adversary – JAWS, anyone?- began in 1987 and continues to inform viewers with terrifying shark facts each year. Shark Week has grown so popular that its become a fashion statement in its own right! While not everyone can be as terrifyingly fashionable as this runway model, here are our top 5 Shark Week shirts.

1. It’s a bad week to be a seal

If you’ve watched any live television in the past few weeks, you’ve likely seen the Shark Week commercial with Snuffy the seal. Things don’t end well for poor Snuffy. To commemorate his (her?) short lived life, Discovery issued this Shark Week I Love Snuffy flip-up t-shirt.

2. Keep Calm and Swim Fast

Did you know that the Salmon shark, the world’s fastest shark, can swim up to 55 miles per hour? For those of you that just shrugged, thats 50 MPH faster than Olympian Michael Phelps can swim. Keep calm and swim faster. Swim really, really fast.

3. Polite Predators

You’ll never meet a more polite predator, though we doubt they’ll get a second invite to dinner. They can’t help themselves. It’s in their nature, okay?! While a large great white shark can go up to three months without eating, some of its relatives just can’t resist the urge.

4.  What’s better than a shark on a bike?

Nothing. The answer is absolutely nothing. Except maybe this shark with a mustache. (Okay, I realize this counts as two shirts, but they share the same whimsical category!)
